Review: My Fair Lady Musical

Review: My Fair Lady Musical

My Fair Lady Musical is the latest in a long line of award-winning plays based on British actress Camryn Granger's life and works. In the play, which you will be seeing live this year in London, Camryn (knee-jerk comedy) struggles with feelings of humiliation and shame after her mother dies in childbirth. When the family's only surviving daughter accepts a playboy engagement to a rich man, the formerly shy and reclusive young woman suddenly finds herself in the center of a media spotlight, and the spotlight will not be small! The press, photographers, will all be invited to make their interest known.

Camryn, with the help of her friend and fellow patroness, Polly Prince (laughter), gets out of the house at the first chance. She rushes to the hospital, after that, the playboy boyfriend professes his love for her. Will he marry her? She can only guess, but first, she must overcome the shame of being a 'strange woman' and find love with someone who understands her.

Camryn's mother has been dead since she was a child. Her stepmother and two younger sisters have taken over. The middle sister is also involved in politics but has yet to stage an appearance on stage. As a result, Camryn is left to fend for herself amid a hostile household. She forms a relationship with the less than stable brother of her late mother, and the two become friends.

The play is based around Camryn's life in the London tabloids and the press. In the play, she is criticized both by the media and her mother. The criticism comes mainly from the tabloids, which seem to relish in embarrassing the less than attractive members of our society. My Fair Lady Musical gives the viewer an equal dose of gory detail in its depiction of the tabloids and the ugly underclass in our community today.

My Fair Lady Musical is very different from other musicals in that it plays on several levels, including the socio-political aspects. These songs are aimed directly at the audience rather than the lead character. It is also quite timely as Camryn's story takes place when serious debates are raging in the UK regarding welfare tour benefits and cuts to services. Both the songs and the play itself tackle social issues such as poverty and inequality. This makes My Fair Lady musical a much-needed corrective to the negative messages portrayed in the media on benefits cuts.

Dawn French directs the play. It is the first time that Dawn French has produced a musical, and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by it. My Fair Lady musical puts an original spin on an old play and translates it into a modern play! If you are not familiar with Mary Poppins, then you will be amazed by the colorful way in which the play is done.

My Fair Lady is not the first musical aimed at younger audiences, but it is by far my favorite. My Fair Lady has so much heart and feeling that I was crying from laughter throughout the show! My Fair Lady's colorful musical and drama are sure to entertain the young and the old alike, just like the original Mary Poppins movie!

My Fair Lady will find itself making its rounds across the theater circuit, and I can hear the fans singing the songs through the curtain opening and right up until the very end! My Fair Lady will have a massive success around the globe, just like the original movie. My Fair Lady Musical is set to begin performances at the West End in London's Broadway in the not distant future. My Fair Lady is an instant hit amongst children and the young at heart, and I am confident that it will gain immense popularity amongst people of all ages.
