Every student must have gone through a time where they just sat still and their brain did not help them even a bit. When you have to think of ideas to solve a problem or create a project, etc chances are you would sometimes find yourself thinking hard and to no avail, because your brain decided to not help you or you just don’t know how to approach the topic and start brainstorming.
Brainstorming for ideas is a great way of overcoming problems or completing any task. Brainstorming allows an individual to think of ideas that might help them in problem-solving. When a student brainstorms they think of all the possible ways they could think of to solve or complete a task because once they have a number of ideas in front of them they can easily pick the one that can help them. Students can add changes and improve their basic ideas into great ones.
However, brainstorming and generating ideas is not an easy task when your brain is not on your side and that is why Dissertation help in Dubai has created a list of top ten ways to idealize and brainstorm.
1. Ask Questions
Asking questions is a great way of brainstorming. Once you gather all the possible questions you think are relevant to your problem or task, it gets a lot easier to approach the issue. If you wouldn’t know how to start then how exactly will you start? Questions give us an idea of what to do and how to do it. After answering the questions you will have clarity that will help you brainstorm.
2. Group Brainstorming
Being a part of a brainstorming group will help open your mind and your creativity will flow. Brainstorming ideas with a group is great because there is room for discussion. If you brainstormed an idea and pitched it to the group then there will be questions asked or suggestions made for the idea and this will give you a chance to improve. It’s always a good thing to exchange ideas with other people because they can help you point at things you otherwise can’t.
3. Use Teleporting Storming
This may seem a little odd to someone who is new to brainstorming but teleporting storming is one of the most effective ways of brainstorming ideas. In this technique, you use your imagination and teleport yourself to a different environment. This works because you can relax in the process which helps your creative juices to flow with ease.
4. Blind Writing
This is a technique that requires you to write whatever you want to. This is another great way of bringing out ideas that you might not in a normal setting. You are required to take a blank piece of paper and write whatever you want without stopping for your chosen period of time. For this, you’ll have to be open with yourself and will have to pour out everything that you could think of on the blank paper. It is important to note the idea down as quickly as possible before it fades away.
5. Try Reverse Storming
Try this one if normal techniques are not working. Reverse storming is a process in which instead of finding the solutions to solve your problems, you will think of a reason that might prevent you from overcoming the problem. You imagine the scenario where you don’t want to progress and you want to stop yourself from doing so and what are the things that will create boundaries between you and your success. When you pen down all the reasons that might prevent you from solving the issue, you get an outline of all the reasons which can cause the problem to stay. Once you have all the issues lined up, you can easily think of their solutions and free yourself from all the worries.
6. Mind Mapping
If you are a student, you might be familiar with it. Mind mapping has been one of the ideal ways to brainstorm and it should be easier for students because they are already familiar with its idea. Mind mapping is a simple exercise where you write the main idea, question or problem in the middle of the paper and then create its categories of sub-ideas. Once you will start doing it, you will soon begin to see a pattern. Decide which idea suits your situation the best or do you have to merge few ideas together to create one. This is especially effective in group brainstorming because different minds think of different things.
7. Don’t Settle for Less, Think of More Ideas
When we are brainstorming we get tired and let go of other ideas that we may consider over the top or childish. You are always in need of more quantity because more ideas will allow you to come to more appropriate solutions. Don’t look for that one great idea, look for a lot of small ideas and make them great. More ideas mean one step closer to the solution or your task.
8. Don’t Be Judgmental of New Ideas
This is for teachers and students who believe it’s ok to criticize someone’s idea and belittle them. No idea is big or small and smart or stupid. Everyone has an idea no matter how unbelievable it looks, it‘s just a matter of time when people can achieve what they want. Be more welcoming and encourage your fellow students for thinking of a great idea. This keeps their morals up and spirits high. Don’t judge someone on an idea they presented instead you should appreciate them and try and understand where they are coming from.
9. 5 Whys Analysis
This is a really simple, unique, and effective way of brainstorming. Unlike reverse storming, we directly tackle the problems that we are facing. You are basically questioning your assumption so that you can gain more information about the problem. You can use these whys according to your situation but interlink these whys to bring out a positive result. What you have to do is ask yourself “why is the problem arising?” Now when you answer this question you have to interlink the 2nd why to the answer for example,” why am I finding it difficult?” and similarly connect all five whys to come to a scenario.
10. Relax Your Mind
There is no point in brainstorming if your mind is not relaxed, you will not lead to any progress. It is very important to take some rest after a while especially for students. As the name suggests, brainstorming is all about thinking and imagining from one’s brain so why do you keep forcing it to do things it might not have the capacity to at the moment. Take some breaks in the middle and continue with a fresh start. This is very effective and one should keep this in mind when using all of the above techniques.
