Just like the saying goes "Same same but different". In estates, playgrounds, lawns, front or back yards, etc, both tasks can be utilized as a hobby and professionalism. Despite the similarities amongst landscaping and gardening differences stand between them. The line existing between them is very thin yet deep, so it is necessary to understand them, respectively.

What is Gardening?

As the famous saying goes, "Gardening adds years to your life and life to your years." Gardening is more of a leisure activity involving nursing and nurturing a garden. Diverse types of plants, like flowers, herbs, grains, vegetables, shrubs, trees, etc., are grown throughout this process of gardening. Gardening can be considered both as an art as well as a science.

Gardening in its fancy state requires a certain amount of nourishment before it blooms fully, and people have made attempts to make it look as attractive as they can. We, humans as nature lovers do gardening in our yards, lawns, balconies, patio, or even indoors. For all that, the majority of people who nurture a homely layout also develop a sense of being content and joy by engaging in the process of flourishing, or as in human terms "fostering" plants. However, most people who harvest a domestic plot also derive satisfaction from involvement in the processes of tending plants.

What is Landscaping?

Once a kind person said, "If you get the landscape right, the characters will step out of it, and they'll be in the right place." Undoubtedly the statements stand apt. A formal horticulture craft- Landscaping is described as means of building a garden or a piece of land more tempting by altering its existing motif, planting trees, flowers and giving it an adorning yet warm, welcoming look.

While gardening is a universal horticultural designation that has no specifics whatsoever., landscaping is a professional service inside the horticultural industry accessible to private and commercial properties, being more in demand as of recent. It has become a major part of the architectural or interior design of any building, whether its offices, home, apartments, clubs, etc.

Contemporary landscaping involves changing an area of land in terms of plants, terrain, or even structures. Alterations to terrain usually involve changing the architecture of land through various processes like assembling, backfilling, terracing. It may also indulge in setting or removing walls, fences, decks, patio covers, or other constructive structures.

A good grasp of horticulture knowledge as well as awareness of the ethics, fundamentals of landscape designs is an essential skill one should acquire. Landscaping holds an overall plan of one's considering the area, garden, accessibility, confidentiality, and most important design.

Gardens have the main aim which is to beautify and enhance your property with the glory of nature. It is a much more realistic and aesthetic look at the overall picture as a design to nurture a client’s needs, requests and to complete the task as an individual task preferably over time, as with a garden, which is more organic and pure.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GARDENING & LANDSCAPING:

Main Focus:-

Gardening is a form that aims entirely at the plants and their well-being. It constitutes the use of very primary design skills so that plants are in their place and healthy, but it ends there. So basically, it is all about plants and taking care of them in all climatic or possible conditions.

Landscaping is considerably modern art as it involves the design and construction of garden spaces. Its main focus is not just plants and their cultivation but also various elements like sculptures, ponds, lawns, outdoor parking, furniture, pathways, water features, etc. do not just focus on plants.

Who Can Practice It?

As easy as it sounds both terms require a special set of skills or knowledge to get the result they want. Can anyone practice these two arts? Or You need to have some particular qualifications to get firmly involved! So let's discuss it below:

The good revelation about gardening is that anyone and everyone can perform it. It can even be proposed as a professional service and impose a fee without any license or professional certification. One can even use it as their means of income, without any professional license or degree.

On the contrary, landscaping is usually not exercised by the average person. It is important to acquire a license. Countries like the USA, UK, Canada provide the professional certified license whereas some countries don’t demand landscapers to have a license. The majority of the population acquires both theoretical and practical knowledge to become a landscaper because it involves a huge deal of architecture and construction elements.

There is no necessity to say that a non-certified individual cannot landscape their garden or homes. It's just a pattern as nearly all people pick a professional to complete the task for them.

Not to forget, Landscapers do earn a good amount of pay as compared to gardeners.

PURPOSE:

Everyone has their own opinion or reasons as to why they perform gardening. But as personal as this activity is, the most common reasons are as follows:

to beautify the backyard,

to give back to nature

to pass the time (as a hobby),

to ease their obsession with plants,

for health reasons

In my own opinion, the satisfaction of growing, harvesting, and finally eating the fruits and vegetables in your garden is incomparable.

Things are quite diverse when it comes to the reason and purpose of landscaping. For reputation and prominence reasons.

To step up the property value and give a more glamorous look.

To build a functional and appealing space to socialize and relax in.
