Kawasaki's Z series range of motorcycles happen to be the most attractive naked bikes you can buy in India. For those on the lookout for a middle-weight motorcycle, the Japanese company had launched the 2019 Z650 in India. The design of the bike has been influenced by the Kawasaki Sugomi design. The Z650 replaces the ER6n as the latest middle-weight naked motorcycle.
Packed neatly within the frame is a 649cc, twin-cylinder engine that produces 67bhp and 65.7Nm of torque. The motor is liquid-cooled and comes paired to a 6-speed manual transmission. The Kawasaki Z650 is BSVI-compliant.
The Z650 is aggressively styled, and is easily one of the sharpest looking naked street bikes you can buy. The entire Z-series range happen to be very striking designs and very modern. Some of them look like they're from the future. The front sports a protruding headlight and a small visor. The semi fairing gets some graphics on it and the tank is nice and muscular. The up-swept tail section looks smart, particularly with those split seats. It gets wing-like grab handles for the pillion and a smart LED tail lamp cluster. The underbelly exhaust looks cool too. The fully digital instrument cluster is easy to read and features the speed, gear position and revs and a few other tell-tale lights on either side. In terms of dimensions, the Z650 is 2065mm in length, 775mm in width and 1080mm in height. Press on the starter button, and the engine settles into a gruff note at idle. You'll be doing triple-digit speeds in no time. Throttle response is great, and there's good power available in the mid-range. Acceleration is strong. It pulls effortlessly, but power tends to taper off at the maximum. At low revs, the engine doesn't sound exciting, but it rumbles when you whack the throttle open. Once you pick up pace, the vibrations tend to disappear. Even the engine doesn't heat up too much. The transmission works very well. At 186kgs, the bike's weight is manageable. The ground clearance, on the other hand, is 130mm, while the bike has a wheelbase of 1410mm and a seat height of 785mm.
The Kawasaki Z650 has a fuel tank capacity of 15 litres. In terms of mileage, the bike is capable of returning 18kmpl by ARAI, in BSVI guise.
Thank fully, the Z650 is a very compact bike. The foot pegs are positioned in the middle, and the wide and flat handlebar allows the rider to have a seating posture that is both, upright and sporty. For tall riders however, it can get a little cramped, particularly on long rides. Around corners, the Z650 impresses. The steering is perfectly weighted, which results in the bike being very planted around a corner. The grip from the Dunlop tyres could have been better. The ride quality is on the pliant side, taking care of bumps effortlessly. The brakes are fantastic at cutting speed down, and ABS works well to keep both the wheels firmly on the tarmac. At the front, the bike rides on hydraulic telescopic forks, while the rear gets a horizontal back link with adjustable spring . As far as the chassis is concerned, it is built around a trellis, high-tensile steel frame. The Z650 runs on 120/70 ZR-17 tyres at the front and 160/60 ZR-17 tyres at the rear. Retardation duties are taken care of by disc brakes at the front and at the rear.
The bike comes loaded with a slew of features like a fully digital instrument cluster, alloy wheels, ABS, pass-light switch, digital trip meter, pillion grab handle, LED tail light and engine kill switch.
