What is a Half Wig and How Does it Work?

What is a Half Wig and How Does it Work?

The half wig (aka half lace wig or lace front wig) is a relatively new hair type in the wig industry.  It's more versatile than the full lace, as it can be worn in many different styles and designs. It also requires less maintenance than other hair types, because you can wear your hair underneath. Here's what you need to know about half wigs, including how to choose the best one for your needs and how to care for it properly.

1. What Is a Half Wig?

A half wig is a wig that covers only the top of your head and not the back. It is also known as a front lace wig or a front closure wig because it has a lace front. A half wig is not the same as a lace front wig, which is a wig worn at the front of the head.

Unlike many hair types, which need regular maintenance due to the chemicals and heat used to cure the hair, a half wig doesn’t need to be cared for because it grows naturally. However, you don’t want to let your wig fall prey to a magic wand.

A good wig fits loosely around your head and can reach down your neck. It has to have some natural curl so your hair won’t bunch up. If you’ve got long hair, the wig won’t reach your shoulders under your collar bone.

A long wig can be straight or ponytail-style. You can either wear your hair straight or in a small ponytail, which means they curl down to your bottom lip. Alternatively, if you have straight hair, a cut-combover or bun can be worn in its place. While the length is up to you, you usually wear it to about six inches above the natural waistline of your hair.

2. How Does It Differ From Other Hair Types?

Asian hair has its own set of characteristics that makes it unique. It’s naturally straight, shiny, and has a medium to coarse texture. Asian hair is also relatively healthy compared to other hair types so the hair cuticle is tightly intact, which makes it hard to dye and style. Asian hair is also usually very fine and doesn’t hold curls well.

The name “half wig” came into being because of the way the fashion industry viewed it a few years ago. Fashion was “thrifted,” or buying unbranded or discounted items. It was also considered to be high end, which meant it had a thicker stack of plates in the headdress and was more expensive than a regular full-wig, needing to be treated with more oils and styling products.

This unique configuration of hair, compared to other hair types, made it unsatisfactory for many women’s hobbies, like bonsai, where the shape of the tree is aesthetically important. Westerners like those in the fashion industry preferred staying straight and popular because it meant they could wear their hair in ways that are popular in the bar and nightclub scene. Their natural hair texture was not considered fashionable or aesthetically pleasing.

Like many other hair types, Asian hair has some advantages and some disadvantages when it comes to applying for styling. Studies suggest that certain chemicals and hormones pesticides used on crop production can significantly affect hair growth, affecting not only the cotton and textiles industries but also certain types of hair care products. Animal testing on hair care products is also relatively new, so we don’t have as much data on the long-term health effects of wearing these products.

3. Why Would You Choose a Half Wig?

Forms of the half wig include the flat wigs with flat pins, the adjustable half wigs, and the gooseneck wigs, among others. A full hair wig is a standard, full-length wig that can be worn as a hairstyle or for everyday wear. A lattice-style wig is a sort of half face-perhaps flat on the top and has a high curl at the front, lifted to a point in the back, or the side. The wigs you see in stores or advertisements usually have wigs with flat pins, adjustable pins at the back, two pins spaced close to each other, and buttons that can be medallions ornaments on the side of the head. There may also be a third style, a gooseneck wig, which has a side fringe and has two adjustable pins.

An adjustable wig is a wig that can be easily Adjusted for different head sizes and shapes. Wigs with no adjustable pins can work for some people, but the feel of pins can create a more customized look. Medallions are sewn along the side of the head or on the crown. Other styles have a small medallion or crown pin. Medallions can create a more stylish look because they are small and they don’t stay in place as easily as buttons and pins. Medallion wigs usually have no curl at the front of the head and are more durable than other styles as well. Some high-fashion hairstylists also use medallions in their wigs. A gooseneck or half gooseneck style wig has a side fringe and is usually also adjustable. This style features a large medallion and the front of the head is either pinned or medallioned, sometimes both.

4. How Do You Care for Your Half Wig?

There are some important things to remember when it comes to caring for your half wig:

1) Never apply hair products directly to the lace. Products like moisturizers, oils, and deep conditioners can cause damage to the lace, so it’s important to first apply them to your hair and then apply the mixture to the lace.

2) The best way to shave your hair is to use a blow-dryer or flat iron. Apply lotion to help soften and condition the hair, and then use a clean razor to shave it down to bare stubble. Sheer products can make the hair look shinier, and excessive moisture can cause the hair to fall out.

3) If your hair is very damaged or was damaged in the past, be sure to visit a wig or hair clinic to have it professionally coloured. Depending on the severity of the damage, you may need to have your hair coloured with advanced hair Density Activating treatments or chemicals (such as perm) to re-grow your hair back.

4) If you plan to wear your wig during re-gathering, make sure to do it in an environment free from UV rays. Don’t put your wig in the shower or swimming pool, since that can damage it.

Wigs come in all sorts of different shapes and sizes. Choosing the right should fit you nicely and work for your natural hairstyle. If the wig you want doesn’t look right on you — especially if it’s too big or too small — don’t despair.

Leave it on for a few days, and keep an eye on it. If it’s wearing noticeably different than before, you may want to try some of the other options on the market. If your half wig is dark or colourless, try different hair colours. If it’s a different hair type than you’re used to, you may want to try that one first. Remember that once you try a new hair colour, you may need to retry with your existing hairstyles to see which works best.

5. How Do You Style Your Half Wig?

The first thing you should do is put on a wig cap. That keeps the wig from moving around too much while you style it. Use a curling iron to curl the hair and create a curl pattern. Then, use a flat iron to smooth it out. If you want a more natural look, you can leave it like that. But if you want a more forward shift in your look, you can use a top relaxer, which will pull the hair back into a ponytail when you curl it.

If you have just a few inches of hair, consider going with a pixie cut. But if you have any hair over your ears (or on your scalp), make sure to go for a long and natural updo. Curls on the front, lots of waves on the sides and back. Yep, this look is a little sexy for office settings.

Half wigs are perfectly good for natural hair textures such as flat, wavy and curly. If you’re wearing natural hair straight from the head, consider changing your style. Wigs that are chemically treated to look like natural hair won’t look good.

If you’re thinking of buying Synthetic Half Wigs, first make sure that it has natural density and none of the break or curl issues that you’ve experienced with chemically processed wigs.

Wig tutorials are easy to find and you can scroll to the bottom of the product page to see just how effective manufacturers claim their products are at detangling and detachable styling. If you don’t want to change your hairstyle all the time, you can wear them occasionally or only when necessary. However, if you prefer the traditional look of warm brown hair, that’s also possible.
