Importance of RO water purifier and the need for maintenance

With the increase in urbanization and high population, our cities have become more populated and polluted. The basic amenities like drinking water are facing serious quality and quantity issues. In many places, the water supplied by authorities is not fit for drinking and cooking purposes. To address this, we have relied on water filters. But in the past two decades have seen a revolution in water filter technology and saw the rise of RO-based water filters.

Nowadays, most of us have RO-based water filters in our homes and offices. If you are thinking of purchasing one for your household, then you have to consider multiple aspects. We are starting from water purifier brand to technology used to water purifier service to price everything. We will discuss all those essential aspects of RO-based water purifiers, which would help you make an informed choice.

Know before you invest in an RO water purifier

RO-based water purifiers are of various types and capacities. Some also use advanced RO technology combined with UV technology to purify water—the price of an RO water purifier is based on these factors. Based on your need and budget, you should decide which type of RO is best for you. In some localities, the quality of water is inferior.

For such areas, it is recommended to go for RO plus UV technology filters with low TDS. For sites where the quality of water supplied is better but still below par than ideal drinking water. In those areas, a standard RO-based water purifier will be enough. Whatever model or brand you choose based on the above factors, there is one more consideration.

Why service & maintenance is the soul of RO water purifier

RO-based water purifiers are the outcome of a complicated scientific method called reverse osmosis to purify water. Earlier, this method was used for commercial water purification in plants only. But companies took the challenge to miniaturize the whole process into the size of a household unit. The result is today's RO water purifiers. Since it's a complicated method with various stages, the water purifier in itself has many compartments. Each compartment is linked, and all the moving parts work in tandem to generate pure drinking water.

There is always some chance of malfunctioning in any of the features. Also, there can be a need for the replacement of parts like filters and membranes. Because after a specific period, the filter membranes lose their capability to filter out impurities. For handling these situations, we need good RO service other than the right product and famous brand. From the moment you purchase the product, you have to rely on the service center and customer care to set things moving. You will have to schedule an appointment, and the service engineer will visit your house or office to install the RO.

Always rely on brand owned service centers

Do not try to do this yourself or call and third-party technician. If you do so, your warranty will be null and void. Once installed, you can start using the water purifier but call the service engineer again after three months of regular maintenance. The service engineer will clean all the filters and put some chemicals into the filter. You need to flush the water out after the first filter, and then it's fit to use again.

Such mandatory services are free in the first year of purchase, but you will have to pay for every visit next year. Also, the replacement of filters will occur the following year, which will have its own cost. If you do not want to spend money every time, companies offer AMC packages for extended warranty. These AMC packages are valid for one or two years. During this time, all the service engineer visits and replacement of filters will be free of cost in exchange for a one-time lump sum payment.

Some other common issues are also taken care of by the service centers, and your AMC package also covers them. These issues are water leakage, slow filtration, water pump malfunction, and control board defects. Only a service engineer from the brand can fix them as each brand has its way of building the product. So always go for genuine service centers and do not compromise on yourself and your family's health.
