How to Update Avaya Aura Media Server?
When it comes to updating the Avaya Aura Media Server, it's essential to check the customers' software version and other specific requirements. Walk-Up to a Phone: You need to ensure that all phones have the same model and type. This will make sure that you're offering the correct files and files version.

By running the mv command (mv filename.bin /tftpboot), you can now move the files to the tftpboot folder. After moving the files, it's a good procedure to list the tftpboot directory files.
The TFTP App Method
This is a user-friendly method to transfer files if you don't want to use CLI. These apps are equipped with a GUI interface, allowing you to navigate through the Avaya Server file system.
For connecting, open the app and type the Host Name IP, login and password. Make sure you're setting port 22 for the Secure Shell. Once you're connected, the program will connect to the user-accounts/admin working directory. Now, you need to jump to the /var/home/ftp/pub directory. Once you reach the pub directory, copy the files out to the tftpboot folder.
USB HDD Method
Another way to transfer files is to connect a USB Jump/thumb/flash drive to the Media Gateway. Don’t forget to test the Flash Drive before transferring the files.
Once you get successful in transferring your files onto the Flash Drive, it’s time to run these commands:
- show usb all (locate the usb device id): If the device isn’t on the list, don’t proceed.
- dir usbdevice0: Make sure files exist in the usb flash drive.
- copy usb sw_imageA usbdevice0 sw_NewImageFileName.bin.
Preliminary Test
After updating the MS, your Media Modules, Media Gateways, and one end-point are now running the latest version of the software. Ensure that your headsets are working in fine condition without any hassle.
Schedule the Upgrade
Once the up-gradation is complete, it's time to show your customers - how the whole system works. You can ask him/her for a window or time frame to upgrade the phones. The total time of up-gradation is around 15 minutes.
